Basic ingredients include the Thai star of coconut milk, candy paste, flour and jasmine, while you can expect colouring that are certainly not artificial – they are derived from pandan and butterfly pea juice!
These yummy treats are beautifully shaped, and laid out in the most photogenic presentation so your dessert looks a tad bit extra at Cher Cheeva! Their most sought-after treats are all included in the Cher Set, offered at only 250 Baht for an array of cute chewy treats!

7. Learn how to make your own thai dessert – Sane Cafe & Workshop
Be careful with this one, once you’ve given a go to making Thai desserts, you’ll never want to go back to baking typical cakes again. Because after all, you did not really make it if you didn’t Instagram it, right?
Of course making your own won’t be as beautiful as the real deal (sad, painful truth). But the team at Sane Cafe & Workshop will surely do their best to ensure that your treats at least taste good and look edible (evil laugh)…
After making a few of these, you’ll live up to the quote of “practice makes perfect”, as your little treats will be good enough to be displayed in the cafe – or simply bring them (and your new skills) back home with pride!

8. It’s a traditional Thai dessert hot pot – Yummy Party (Permanently Closed)

Half Thai, half Korean but full-on Insta-worthy looking! At Cheevit Cheeva, your traditional glutinous rice balls are topped on their magnificent bingsu; but that’s not about it!
If you like your eggs drizzled on top of a dessert, you should head to Cheevit Cheeva. Their Bua Loi Bingsu (245 Baht) is also topped with rich salted egg yolk sauce (you’ll get plenty of Insta likes for a slow-motion video of that!).
This little cafe which grew in popularity from Chiang Mai has finally made it to the big city of Bangkok, and they are packed to the brim on the daily – with long queues of dessert-goers at any time of the day!
Expect minimalist interiors and perfect white-washed walls and calligraphy writings for the most good looking picturesque backdrops!
We know it’s mostly about the bingsu and the salted egg yolk sauce, but the glutinous rice balls do bring a twist to it. And after all, isn’t it a fancy way of saying that you have at least tried a thai dessert?!
10. They have over 30 toppings for your shaved ice! – Cheng Sim Ei
If you are a true foodie, then you’ll understand the importance of heading to roadside stalls to truly take in the whole local experience. Cheng Sim Ei does not fail on this, as it brings you a sweet Thai-Chinese concoction (very similar to Cendol)!
Bangkok is known for its shopping, rooftop bars and cheap… beer? But we believe their local thai desserts deserves more attention; especially when you get to choose from over 30 toppings to beautify your bowl of shaved ice!
Get the most colourful toppings for the guaranteed 100+ likes! You’ll also get to choose from 4-5 different syrups. Just watching the dessert being made is a local experience in itself, and you can imagine how magical the taste is!
Have no shame in holding up your bowl for the ultimate Insta! Get ready for that surprise explosion of flavours under your scoop of shaved ice! Do it like real food bloggers, don’t miss out on topping it with some Lod Chong (worm-liked green rice flour jelly).
11. Ice cream infused with special Thai elements – Onedee Cafe
Like typical ice-cream but better because of its flavours – your ice-cream in Bangkok does not always have to be coconut flavoured. Time to slurp in a traditional Thai tea frozen scoop, topped with Taiwanese tapioca pearls!
Make sure that your waitress sits you in a spot with good lighting… So you can snap these perfect Insta-worthy pictures, while you pour the coconut milk sauce dripping down your ice-cream scoop…
Besides ice-cream, you’ll also get your coffee fix at Onedee Cafe with decadent options like their palm sugar macchiato coffee – you can’t go more Thai than this!
12. Gulp down this rare dessert from eastern Thailand! – Sri Trat
From East Thailand, all the way to Bangkok; Sri Trat offers delicacies that are unknown to many. Dishes here are anything but boring, shining in flamboyant colours – and hiding the most explosive Thai flavours you can ever imagine.
According to foodies, you should certainly settle for the restaurant’s speciality – chamuang leaf curry and creamy lon chili dip, while dessert is served on a cute little balancing stand. Their Bua Loi Haeng is to die for!
If you are one who prefers to stay on the safe side, Sri Trat also does a ridiculously good mango sticky rice.
The restaurant’s interior is also surprisingly pleasant and perfect for your foodie shots!

Website 13. A sweet rainbow-coloured delicacy – AKART Bistro & Bar
Tip: Save room for an indulgent dessert at AKART Bistro & Bar. Though you could share it but if you ask me, I would keep it all to myself!
At AKART Bistro & Bar, your traditional Thai dessert is served with a touch of colourful glam – you never thought you’d see the day something so beautiful was invented.
Your bowl of snow ice is dotted with rainbow-coloured rice balls, while you get to enjoy this cooling treat among hanging ferns displayed around the cafe.
This look-at-me-now dessert is perfect on a hot day in Bangkok (when isn’t it hot and humid anyway?).
If you are not keen to look like a fairy princess scooping her colourful dessert, opt for their butterfly pea flavour! It’s still refreshing and Insta-worthy… just a bit more masculine, if you get what I mean
Don’t miss out on tracking down their cotton candy drinks too; +100 new followers for that shot!
14. In a few years this Thai dessert will probably disappear – Baannai Hotel and Restaurant
Nothing fancy in the looks, but this dessert originating from south Thailand is slowly disappearing around cafes and stalls – so you might want to get a shot of it before it’s too late.
Khanom Pra Phai is traditionally served in traditional Thai weddings, but you can head over to Baannai Hotel and Restaurant to give it a try!
Set in a colonial building, you get to enjoy these little balls of sticky rice that are jasmine-scented and drizzled with coconut milk while chewy in texture…
However, if you’re not in the mood for a glutinous treat (what’s wrong with you!), go for their watermelon dessert – something new and exciting for you as these are topped with dried fish flakes!

Website 15. More than just mango sticky rice – The Mango Garden
Move over Avo, Mango is still our favourite superfruit – especially when it comes in the form of… mango everything!
The Mango Garden is considered a new kid on the block of dessert cafes in Bangkok – but don’t underestimate its popularity on the coastal area of Koh Phi Phi (No 1 dessert shop on Tripadvisor!).
Okay, we said it would be more than just mango sticky rice, but they happen to make your all-time favourite in a very special way, with dried fish flakes on the side. Jjust like in the old times with organic rice from local farmers of Chiang Rai; take that!
You will also be delighted to try their Mango Glacier that features butterfly pea infused bingsu, and a bowl of colourful treats like mango (of course!), grass jelly, and blue rubies that are meant to be splashed in condensed milk…
Of course, they have mango smoothies, don’t ask the obvious! Oh and mango & nutella toast, also checked! ✓
16. A roadside stall expert in traditional Thai desserts – Sweettime
The name could not be more appropriate. We’ve been dreaming about this since we first tasted it! These little cups of milky goodness attract crowds of dessert-goers, every night in Bangkok’s chinatown!
There are plenty of options but they are basically the traditional glutinous items, soaked in coconut milk and topped with plenty of other little delicacies of your choice!
Rice balls, jellies, rubies and more… but all this on-the-go; how convenient when all you want to do in Bangkok is shop!
17. It’s bingsu gone on a mango sticky rice twist – After You Cafe
Let’s take a minute to thank After You Cafe for this freaking good combo! This is the kind of bingsu you need to survive the week – when all you crave is some mangolicious flavours but also something icy.
We would definitely go “After You”, Mango Sticky Rice Bingsu! Let’s start from the top, just how we like it… they’ve got the crunchy pea, followed by drizzling coconut cream and then comes the bingsu star… Take a spoonful of mango cubes and chewy sticky rice!
Bring me some tissues please; I am drooling here!
Special Mention: Not a dessert, but it sure looks like one! – Siam Spring Bistro*
This made it into our special mention simply because…. Who knew how Instagrammable and beautiful a chicken dumpling could be?!
It not only looks like a traditional Thai dessert, it’s just as delectable too.
Siam Spring Bistro is quite the gorgeous place to dine at – being a florist and a restaurant rolled into one.
If you’re looking for something special, the food here is quite rare to find, being made using quality recipes from the Royal Thai kitchen.
For its ambience, affordability and traditional recipes, we’d say you should definitely check it out!
Never end the day without dessert! Let us know which of these will be your next sweet tooth favourites whilst in Bangkok – and tag the ones you’re bringing with to DessertLand!
