One of my absolute favourite parts about travelling, is of course, EATING ALL THE DELICIOUS FOOD! So I’m often curious what lesser known cities have to offer and it seems that Khao Kho really delivered.
There’s something here for everyone, and it’s also a town full of cutesy cafes, most with thee.most stunning views, in beautiful spaces and surrounded by tall trees and greens. Don’t you just love it up here?
Now comes the real fun part, indulging in all things scrumptious – yummy foodie delights!
From deep fried pork omelettes, to ostrich fried in black pepper, classic French food and a totally mouth-watering, tummy-satisfying eggs benedict! Please do try everything!

5D4N Winter itinerary to Khao Kho & Bangkok: Bring your family on a magnificent roadtrip they won’t forget!
1. Chandeliers, wisps of white fabrics and wildflowers everywhere – Jolly Cafe
If fairies existed, I feel like this would be the type of charming farm-style eatery they would be at. Whites and creams, feathery flowers and teepee-style picnic seats, it’s all too pretty if you ask me!
Set up in a rural area, it really takes you to the countryside.
A white farmhouse holds the kitchen and inside seating, serving up delectable pastas – their spicy seafood pasta looks fresh and zingy and the lasagna looks great too – pizzas (good thick crust, nice thin base), salads and meat cuts, which are huge!
I love love loveee the outside seating area, where you can either choose to picnic on hay-stack chairs and low rise tables – or enjoy the joy of sitting on cushions and blankets in a teepee (always reminds me of being a kid and Enid Blyton novels for some reason).
And I gotta mention the desserts – obvs! They’re so beautifully presented and pop with colour! And I have to say, the Tiramisu looks absolutely mouth-watering, generously dusted with a side of raspberries – guess who’s off to the bakery now…
PS: They’re very specific about where their fresh produce comes from and how the food is source. This always makes a difference and shows in their food!
2. Ancient China at a time of warriors and princesses – Takmoh Coffee Khao Kho
Nǐ hǎo / 你好 (Hello in Chinese), I mean oh hi, hey, sawadeekha…
Sorry, for a moment there I thought I was in China, and I mean, check this place out, do you blame a girl?! Nestled among a mountainous range of greens and trees, the design is totally ancient China vibes…
The entrance – with its giant ancient bronze Chinese figurines and beautiful sweeping roofs, it’s truly a standout and very intriguing I must say.
The interiors are just as awesome and ethereal, and ambiance is created with low hanging lanterns everywhere, finished in dark woods and reds.
And the magic doesn’t end there; surrounding the coffee bar is an outside deck, with the most gorgeous backdrop, especially when the clouds hang low. That’s when it takes on this even more ancient Chinese territory thing it’s got going on!
They’re open super early so if you want to catch the clouds, I would suggest heading there then (also during the rainy season).
3. Eggs Benedict are a calling – Pino Latte
This next spot is a firm favourite amongst those visiting Khao Kho and that’s because the food, location and views are all pretty much amazing!!
Skip all the cutesy and frills, and enjoy some peace and quiet whilst sitting among the most scenic and breathtaking views (it’s actually also one of the best view spots here).
It’s like everywhere in Khao Kho offers you a brand new view and this place is no different! Take some awesome selfies against the skyline and have a slice of cake/or some fresh veg!
They do loads of Western breakfast including a good Eggs Benedict, and their coffee is said to be pretty amazing too.
PS: It can get really crowded here, so if you don’t want to wait for seats, it’s best to get here early. 🙂
4. Excusez-moi, finding French in Khao Kho! – Le Bonheur Khao Kho
Fancy yourself a homemade butter croissant, or some fresh and delicious seared salmon? Have we got your taste-buds tingling yet?
This unexpected bakery & restaurant offers a mix of French and Thai fusion food!
Another day in Khao Kho, another view spot whilst you fill your stomachs, and this one too overlooks the clouds.
The food looks wholesome yet classic, which is typical of the French isn’t it? I love that it feels really spacious, open, and clean as well as modern and classic.
5. More like a tea room/coffee stop – Moai @ Khao Kho
Definitely interesting, this catches the eye simply by it’s exterior as it’s not that often that you’ll come across a casual cafe that’s lined with two big Easter Island statues!
(For those not in the know, these are the traditional Stoneage statue heads that are most commonly found in the Easter Islands.
Not that common at all I’d just like to point out!
With mountain and river views, it makes for the perfect quick coffee stop-over.
And if you’re feeling peckish, they offer a range of simple Western and Thai meals such as pork chop and fries, or a piece of rainbow cake – not the best quality, but not the worst either.
6. Fill up your empty tanks with deliciously served fresh produce – Tanrak Talaymok
There’s a reason that this is one of the locals’ favourite places to eat in Khao Kho. Designed like a greenhouse, being here will lift your spirits!
The red curry was so fragrant, we’re hungry just thinking about it. Plus, the stir-fried cabbage here is incredible – super duper sweet cabbage like the famous Taiwan cabbage (mountain-grown produce FTW). There’s nothing quite like it, every crunch filled with mouthwatering juices. That could be because they are right next to a vegetable farm!
Sunsets here are beautiful, and the set up, with it’s green hedges and flower beds, lit-up old- fashioned lanterns and a cobbled pathway leading you inside. It has a real old-school gentlemanly charm about it.
7. A gorgeous spot with gorgeous views and simply, gorgeous food! – The Piney Bistro
All about aesthetics and I am so into it.
Think contrasting textures, modern design and tons of natural elements and the most STUNNING view – as you enjoy your bistro-style meal, sitting among a cloud that looks like cotton – literally.
It can be found, located behind the 5 Buddha statue, Pha Hid Kaew Temple and it’s surroundings are truly beautiful!
Expect all kinds of yummy food from deep fried chicken wings with a sweet chilli sauce, to steak & fries. But boys and girls, please do yourself a favour and try the eisbein on a bed of mash with veg. Oh goody me, I’m salivating even writing this!
Don’t forget to refuel on a delicious latte and satisfy your sweet tooth with a brownie or baked croissant too.
8. In the time of Cinderella and Snow White – Story Cup by Coffee Hill
If you’re looking for the quaintest little spot to enjoy a cuppa, why not pay a little visit to this little cottage cafe.
It reminds us of a garden cottage from a children’s book – and it’s even got a gigantic cartoon cat sitting all perched right outside so you can’t miss it.
The thatched roof, colours, beautiful flowers everywhere as well as their own garden growing all sorts of flowers and herbs – really add a special touch to the place.
It’s perfect for a quick refill on good coffee, iced shakes, delicious cakes and even macarons!
PS: Their waffles are such a good combination of golden and crispness, yummm!

Website 9. A hot, strong, delicious cappuccino in a beautiful setting, great for kids too! – The Pug Coffee / Lake Hill Khao Kho
This next cute location (I mean we’re talking pugs here, from the real live ones to big doggy cartoon-like statues) is actually inside the Lake Hill Khao Kho Resort, (if you’re looking for a double deal) but is a perfect stop on it’s own too.
I love all things candy colour coated, sweet and delicious, and am impressed with their patisserie-style cakes!
You can also get some furry time with the dogs at The Pug Coffee. Their two residents seem to be a French Bulldog and a Pug, so be on a lookout for the two – they’re such cuties!
And the view here is simply stunning with the friendly toy statue guards, a sea of clouds and teepees (which you can stay in) – adding to the whimsical charm.
They’ve really done this one well, from the rich warm interiors to baskets and bicycles filled with pansies outside, love it!
10. Looking for a good chow down, from burgers to pizza! – The Picnic Basket
A great mix of Western and Thai food, this menu will have something for everyone.
Their brekkies seem to be a winner on the western side (which they offer all day) – offering waffles (yum!), crispy bacon, fried eggs, tomatoes, omelettes and chocolate pancakes.
If you’re looking for some local Thai cuisine, they have an aromatic veg soup with boiled rice and more for breakfast.
They’ve also got scrumptious lunch and dinner meals, making it the perfect place to stop at any time of day! Btw, the BBQ pork ribs look to.die.for.
PS: It’s another setting that also offers accommodation, in wooden and warm wendy house-style units (super cute!), and at night little bonfire picnic spots are lit!
11. Tired of Thai food? – Rai Chan Raem Restaurant
In the mood for Chinese? Now before I say more, this is not full on traditional Chinese cuisine. It’s more of a Chinese take on traditional Thai, using local ingredients. So it’s a little something different.
Try their salted vegetable soup or clear soup with tofu and seaweed. People also talk about the chicken wings and a side of mushrooms, egg and veg in oyster sauce. AND lastly, you definitely should order up one of their deep fried pork omelettes!
It’s got a pretty mountain view and colourful flowers line your view around the place, which makes for pretty photos.

12. No frills just simply finger-licking delicious – Krua Khao Kho
The food was so good here, we finished it before we remembered to take pictures! Their Kaeng Som was divine (a fish-based hot pot soup with eggs and seafood), and the pork trotters were nice too.
FYI, the owner understand and speaks good mandarin, so if you speak Mandarin, you’ll be able to chat with him and find out what’s recommended there!
All in all, we had a really good taste of local food here.
It’s another spot on our list that delivers interesting Thai food, so if you’re in the mood for ostrich anyone… Try their Ostrich fried in black pepper, or a sizzled Chili Fish. And do taste their deep-fried Shiitake with soy sauce (Hed Hom Pad See Eew).
With jam packed flavours, interesting dishes, good portion sizes and reasonable prices, what’s not to love?!
13. If you love your meat, you’ll be happy to hear their menu! – Two Ranch Kitchen @ Krua Rai Song Rao / Rai Song We
Rated number one in the area on local Thai foodie app, Wongnai, this restaurant brings in the people because of its food.
Set in an lovely location between green pine trees and forestry deluxe, come unwind amongst nature and enjoy some seriously great food… Steaks, anyone?
They do an amazinggg Thai fusion menu, with an assortment of different meats and seafood on offer. I am a huge fan of a restaurant that has variety in this department.
German pork legs, Australian Sirloin steaks, smoked basil sausages and delicious fresh-water salmon – try their Grilled Salmon with a typical Thai sauce chili sauce – to be honest, all their fish dishes look amazing!
PS: It’s also home to a resort which sport the cutest rounded lodge cabins for a stay, as well as camping!
14. Artisanal homemade gelato and all things organic – Khao Kho Herbary Organic Farm
Organic, wholesome and just bursting with flavour and freshness, that’s what you’ll get here.
Enjoy this farmstead-style eatery cafe, set in a beautiful forested area. The breakfasts in particular caught my eye, and try their fried eggs served hot in their pan with homemade bread!
And of course, their organic, homemade artisanal ice-cream gets a mention, mouth-watering or what! Such a treat.
I also love the way they present the food, whether on the plate bursting with colour or on a banana leaf.
Not only can you eat delicious food, but you can also pay a little visit to their shop selling fresh products as well as organic items and goods (From honey to passion fruit syrup) for the body and soul.
15. One for all the vegetarians – Thai Sabai Farm @ Khao Kho Talaypu Resort
If you’re vegetarian/vegan, you’ll be delighted with this fresh selection of dishes and meals.
But do not fear if you can’t imagine life without some kind of protein – they also serve a few (organic) egg dishes as well as sustainable fish.
Wanna hear some of their other dishes? They are yummyyyy: Deep Fried Tofu with Tamarind sauce, Stir Fried Rice with Mackerel, Shrimp Paste and Eggs , Vegetables in a Tamarind Curry and you HAVE to try the deep fried pumpkin and mushroom dumpling.
FYI: They are an ACT IFOAM certified organic farm. And there’s a wonderful store selling all things heavenly and organic, included the popular Talaypu branded products!

16. You’ll get a good photo, fresh juices and homemade gelato here – The Front by BN Farm
Gorgeous fields of flowers, fresh juices and homemade gelato baby! Sounds like my cup of tea if you ask me!
If you’re an Instagram hunter (for places to take amazing photographs in, obviously) you’ll be delighted with this setting as colourful flowers line your horizons.
I’d say this is definitely more for the ambiance than a full meal, but it’s perfect for a quick refresher and maybe something sweet for extra energy. They have some yummy delights with amazing waffles and homemade gelato.
It’s a great way to spend an hour or so getting refreshed and enjoying the floral fields. I also have to mention the super chic gigantic artist mixing palette statue, I can appreciate it, and it’s another rad photo opp too!
17. Did you know…? – 9 Tamarind cafe
Here’s a little fun fact: Phetchabun is known for its tamarind, that sticky, dark, yummy (and really common) ingredient used in Thai cuisine.
This coffee shop has a warm and eclectic mix of decor and finishes, along with some basic fare and Tamarind treats.
BTW: Harvesting season is from November to February, if you want to truly experience its importance to the province.
At the end of January there’s even the annual tamarind fair that’s held here! Also, take a stroll downtown where tamarind trees flower in abundance, and look out for the many pods hanging off of trees!
18. Urbanista, this one’s for you! – Chaylongbay Cafe
Overlooking mountains, hills and found along a winding round, this urban cafe is all kinds of cool.
It’s got this really grunge feel to it, like the walls along Brooklyn’s streets, all done in red bricks and sprayed with cartoon characters in graffiti style.
The inside is superrr open, light and spacious with a kind of warm warehouse feel to it.
How about the food? Expect to find pizza, pasta and all your typical Italian favourites on their menu!
19. Perfect little coffee pit stop! – Route 12 Coffee
We’ve all heard of the famous Route 66 in the good ol’ US of A, and whaddayaknow.
This just happens to be an American-style coffee shop, found on Route 12 (which actually just happens to be financed by the US). Neat, huh?
It’s got all the hoots and toots of an old-school/North American-style coffee shop, the one you hop over to for your quick coffee refill. Well it’s the same vibes here – so don’t expect anything special food-wise.
You can also buy a few traditional Thai souvenirs, and there’s a really groovy yellow school bus to use as a prop for photos! Cool!
Route 12 Coffee
Price: From 40 Baht / approx. USD $1.30

20. Here’s a cultural cafe to explore more about Hmong Hill Tribe! – Bud The Cafe
Why not learn something new whilst sipping on your cappuccino, this time more specifically about the Hmong Hill Tribe, through exhibitions throughout the cafe.
I love that about Thailand, they fully involve their visitors and really go out of their way to explain and share with tourists their way of life and culture.
It’s a real authentic experience, and the coffee shop, both inside and outside has been decked out and decorated accordingly. I totally love the mix of geometry meets traditional!
Special mention: Come tantalise your tastebuds – 9 Pints The Gastro House (Nakhon Sawan)
This is one highly underrated restaurant. Every dish we ordered here was so good, and the Alaskan King Crab comes in 3 different dishes with different cooking styles. Whichever you choose, it’s super worth it.
There’s lobster with caviar too, and this place was so good we wanted to go back again and again!
If you consider yourselves quite the craft beer connoisseurs / experts or general enjoyers, you’ll also be delighted when paying a visiting to this gastro-style pub, serving a wide range of beers with different flavours and pilsners!
Try their Red Cherry IPA, American Pale Ale or the Happy New Year Beer Pilsner.
